ONE EPIC NIGHT!!!!

Writer: Linda FontenotLinda Fontenot

Alrighty! I am one proud Gram! Our adventurers have achieved another electrifying level on their exploratory journey-- the world of culinary!

Sunday, August 4, 2024, nine of our adventurers graduated from an 8-week culinary program, Cajun Gems Culinary (CGC), which was centered around gaining basic knowledge and experience in four food service areas: food prep, food safety, entrepreneurship, and community services. In this endeavor the adventurers were given the opportunity to be of service to the homeless and/or less fortunate in our community thru a program called "Grace for the Streets (GFTS)"

GFTS is a program organized and operated by Catholic Daughters and Hundredfold Coffee House in Ville Platte. In this program the less fortunate and/or homeless is provided with a healthy meal every Monday night. On assigned nights, the adventurers planned, prepped, cooked, and served a hot, healthy meal to those in need under the leadership of Chef Coach Neil Ortego, CEO of Build Health.

This was one rewarding program, and our gratitude runs deep for Pastors Steven and Sarahi Sawtelle for giving us this opportunity to partner with them and Catholic Daughters in providing a worthwhile service. Special acknowledgement and heartfelt thanks to all our investors and supporters for helping to make this journey a fulfilled experience (all contributors will be listed on our website--sockac.com).

Our Level One graduates will continue their journey to Level Two which will include continuing with production and learning more business aspects of operating a food service establishment.

Each culinary scholar received a certificate of completion. Carmyn Grace Arvie received a certificate of promotion from beginner's class to Level One Class. Gustavia "Mozie" Sanchez received Spirit of Entrepreneurship; Food Handlers Certification where she earned 86% efficiency; and $300 dollar scholarship to be awarded upon earning high school diploma, May 2024.

After the ceremony, the "Young Chefs" treated the guest to samples of healthy food options.

This was one epic night, and I am so proud of my babies!

Be blessed. Keep looking up and moving forward!

Linda
