Saturday, June 14th was another exciting day of our KidWind project! Youth Supervisor Nylah Guillory demonstrated how wind can be used to propel an object. On board to assist her were coaches in training Mozie Sanchez, Alton Guillory and Coach Angel Guillory.
Youth Supervisor Nylah talked about how wind energy can be used to make objects work. To prove this theory, the adventurers were taught how to design a "sail car". A sail car is a cross between a sailboat and a car. A car uses a motor to move forward, but a sail car uses the wind to move forward.
In this activity, our young adventurers used card stock, wooden skewers, binder clips, foam stickers, masking tape, a hole puncher, and a fan to design and test their project.
Some of the vocabulary words discussed were--bow, mast, sail, stern, axle, and chassis.
We have one more KidWind project to complete for the summer. If interested in joining us on June 28th please reach out using one of these contact methods-- sockac11@gmail.com or message me.
Make it a happy day! Keep looking up and moving forward!
Linda
